Newfane, a small town dedicated to preserving things the way they were, is located in the West River Valley just 13 miles north of Brattleboro on Rt 30. Besides being the Windham County seat, Newfane never fails to provide a pleasant surprise to many a visitor or weary traveler with it's picturesque, historic charm. The columned County courthouse, matching Congregational Church and town hall - all grouped on a handsome, fountained green - are framed by dignified white clapboard houses, including two of Vermont's most elegant inns. Newfane Village is not just a fine place to dine, sleep and stroll. It provides a museum, library, antique shops, book store and two general stores - one with fine quilts and the other with deli-style food. Outside of town one can find fresh vegetables at a local farm market, pick out well-nurtured plants at the local nursery as well as find the site of one of the state's oldest and largest Sunday flea markets, all in season of course. In South Newfane, drive through a covered bridge and discover a popular, well known hybrid daylily farm open during the growing season. During the Winter, skiing in Vermont is unmatched in the Northeast and Newfane is located near four popular resorts. Please come give us a visit - and plan on staying a while.
