On the New York State Barge Canal, near the northern tip of Cayuga Lake, in the Finger Lakes Tourism Region of Upstate New York. The town was named for the river flowing through it, which, in turn was named for was named for the Seneca Indian tribe. Much of the land in this area, along Cayuga Lake, is the subject of a long-litigated claim by the Cayuga tribe. Seneca Knitting Mills recently closed its 155-year-old factory here. Center of the 19th-century suffragist movement. The first women's rights convention was held here in 1848 Many folks theorize that Seneca Falls was the model for Bedford Falls, hometown of George Bailey in the 1946 movie, "It's a Wonderful Life." (The movie was filmed in California.) The community holds an "It's a Wonderful Life Celebration" in December
