Rancho Seco Recreational Area, Herald, California

The Sacramento Municipal Utility District was founded with the idea that providing electric power to Sacramento was a job best done by a public utility overseen by an elected Board of directors. As part of the Sacramento Municipal Utility District's commitment to the community it serves, the District has developed recreational facilities hand-in-hand with its power-generating facilities. These areas cover a wide range of recreational interests, and attract thousands of visitors each year.

Closer to home is the Rancho Seco Recreational Area, managed by the District on its property in the southeastern part of Sacramento County. The park is adjacent to the decommissioned Rancho Seco nuclear power plant, and the Cosumnes Power Plant. Rancho Seco park offers boating, camping, picnicking, and hiking with more recreational facilities in the works
