Welcome to Windmill View Cottage, a private refuge from the bustle of Newport. We're in the country, next to Paradise Valley Park and the newly-restored Boyd's Windmill. We are near Second Beach, the Norman Bird Sanctuary, and the Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge. Downtown Newport is a five-minute drive. The cottage started in the 1890's as a farmhouse. According to Mr. Pedro, a neighbor who used to own the property, the barn was built right after World War II. We bought the property at the end of 1998, and in 2001 began an exciting renovation. We joined the house and barn with an arched connection and turned the second and third floors of the barn into two guest suites with marvelous views of the windmill, Paradise Valley, the Norman Bird Sanctuary, and the ocean on the horizon.

Windmill View Cottage's unique suites are comfortable and spacious. You will enjoy relaxing in your lodgings as much as taking part in Newport's many activities. We look forward to meeting you.

Each suite features a large, private, tiled bathroom with shower; living room with wet bar and small refrigerator; central air conditioning; and private balcony. The Windmill suite décor is beach house, with lots of light from the many large windows and glass doors. The suite's sculpted living room ceiling was a surprise from our old-fashioned Portuguese plasterer. Its eclectic hardwood floors reflect the evolution of the second floor of the barn. The Paradise suite is a little larger with cathedral ceilings. Its theme is a more sophisticated British Island colonial with darker woods and rattan accents. The bath has a whimsical, tiled, two-person shower and skylight. There's an outside shower with hot water for rinsing off after the beach and you can dry your bathing suits and towels on the clothesline. The suites have Ethernet and wireless Internet access. For the comfort and safety of our guests with allergies, we do not allow pets or smoking.
