The Chalfonte Hotel, Cape May’s enduring Historic Site in the National Historic Landmark City, celebrates her 131st anniversary in 2007. Victorian Cape May’s beloved Chalfonte was built in 1876, by Colonel Henry Sawyer, and since that time she has defied conventional definitions of "hotel."
The Chalfonte is located just three blocks from the beautiful Cape May beaches, white and expansive. The Hotel is single, couple, group and family-friendly, and features 70 rooms, some with private baths and others with shared baths on the hall. Accommodations are in the main building and in three cottages on the property. Simplicity is the keyword that best describes the guest rooms; all furnished with beautiful marble-topped dressers and washstands,ceiling fans, and an outer louvered door to welcome the fresh ocean breezes.
The long hallways of the Chalfonte's 2nd and 3rd floors, with antique wash stands and fresh flowers. One of our King rooms, simple and comfortable, with hardwood floors, antiques and hand-stenciling. One of our Queen Rooms in the Howard Street Cottage.
A variety of room types allow guests to select cozy, quaint rooms for Summer escapes, or larger accommodations ideal for family vacations. In addition, Chalfonte guests can choose from rooms with a private bath, or shared baths, located on the hall. It's just like at home. . .you go down the hall, close and lock the door and the bathroom's yours!
