Inn on Winter's Hill, Kingfield, Maine
Once upon a time...Just before the turn-of-the century, Amos G. Winter built a mansion for his wife, Julia, on top of Winter's Hill over looking the town of Kingfield, Maine and the mountains of the Carrabassett Valley.
Designed by...The Stanley (Steam Car) twins, it was the first home in Maine to have central heat. They used the boiler from a locomotive which is still in the basement with a chimney around the smoke stack.
The First Skiing...After Grandpa passed away Amos Jr, with his wife Alice, moved into the house. Amos taught all the kids in town how to ski on the side of Winter's Hill and they helped him cut the first trail on Sugarloaf Mountain, Winter's Way, founding the Sugarloaf Ski Area.
Today...The mansion is restored to its turn-of-the-century grandeur. The addition of a replica of the original barn, designed for guest rooms, allows the Inn on Winter's Hill to offer both superior and luxury accommodations.
Convenient...Yet far from the hustle, the Inn on Winter's Hill offers a sense of tranquility not found in our busy world, balancing the elegance of the past with the convenience of today.
Our lounge features a relaxed & casual setting with complete beverage service and pool table.
The Inn's new indoor hot tub and indoor pool is the perfect way to relax!
And for our summer guests we also have both an outdoor swimming pool and clay tennis court
