The Portage Lake area has become famous for fine hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. The lake itself abounds with fish. Many other lakes and streams in the nearby great northern Maine woods can also provide a sportsman with many hours of enjoyment. Deer, bear and moose have always been favorites with hunters, and 200 pound plus buck deer are not uncommon. The Allagash Wilderness Waterway is only about an hour's drive along good woods road from Dean's Motor Lodge. Angie and Rudy can arrange canoe trips and guides for hunting, fishing and snowmobiling.
