Townshend State Park, Townshend, Vermont
Located on the West River just off Rt. 30 in Townshend. Bald Mountain towers above the park and a hiking trail leading to the summit covers 1,600 vertical feet and provides scenic vistas. Geologic features along the trail include waterfalls, chutes, and pools. The park is part of the 856-acre Townshend State Forest and was developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. The campground is wooded and includes 30 tent/ trailer sites and 4 lean-to sites. Townshend is the only state park with tenting platforms. Just up the road from the park is Townshend Dam & Reservoir with swimming, fishing, and boating. Hot showers. Area attractions: Bromley Adventure Zone, Newfane & Townshend Flea Markets, Butterfly Heaven, Basketville, and Hamilton Falls. MC/VISA.
