Thunder Canyon Campground & RV Park, Ider, Alabama

Nestled in the hills and valleys of the Appalachian Mountain range, the Cumberland Plateau and Sand Mountain offer a land of many uses. Creeks, rivers, valleys and ridges form these historic lands known as the Great Appalachian Valley.

Russell Cave National Monument, near Bridgeport, displays evidence of more than 8,000 years of Indian occupation. Grottos are among some of the most picturesque sights, as in Sequoyah Cave with its mirror lake near Valley Head, Ave Maria Grotto, Cullman, and Cathedral Caverns near Grant.

The Great Appalachian Valley encompasses Northeast Alabama, Southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia. Northeast Alabama offers for our enjoyment sights and sounds including Little River Canyon, Manitou Cave and the group, Alabama's own Alabama Fan Club in Ft Payne, Mentone's arts and crafts, DeSoto Falls, Mount Weisner, elevation 1,894' and Pisgah Gorge on the western bluffs of Sand Mountain.
