Parker House B&B, Truro, Massachusetts
The Parker House is a 180 year old classic full-cape in the center of Truro. The house has been in the same family for four generations and in 1980 became Truro's first Bed & Breakfast. Full of cozy corners in which to sit and peruse fascinating bits of Cape Cod history, the house welcomes all who appreciate the simple and unpretentious flavor of early New England.
On the walls find a portrait of Captain Elijah Cobb (1768-1848), a fiery ancestor who confronted Robespierre during the reign of terror in France, demanding the proper price of his cargo and the release of his impounded ship—which he received. Find also the framed personal insignia of an American Indian Chief from the fuselage of Austin Parker's biplane when he flew for the Lafayette Escadrille during World War I. Surround yourself with a multitude of books, original paintings and portraits, lovely ceramic pieces, and period furniture all in a bright, roomy, comfortable home.
Beautiful ocean and bay beaches within a walking distance of two miles, great bicycling, walks and activities in the Cape Cod National Seashore and the Audubon Sanctuary of Wellfleet, and whale watching from Provincetown are among the many delights. Golf and tennis are also nearby. Art galleries, a variety of shops and a wide range of restaurants can be found in both Wellfleet (five miles south) and Provincetown (nine miles north).
